In November SUSA conducted an assessment training on soft skills and leadership in Mekelle, in the North of Ethiopia.

In the past decade, the Ethiopian economy has been among the most thriving in the world, being industrialization -and in particular the textile industry- key for this development.

Commissioned by the German government, the program for Sustainable Textile in Ethiopia (eTex) supports Ethiopian companies in fulfilling the social and environmental requirements of international buyers and helps them identify better business opportunities. Sustainable development of the textile and garment sector is guaranteed by enforcing decent working and living conditions and promoting protection and sustainable use of environmental resources.

On behalf of eTex SUSA conducted an assessment on soft skills for the “Textile Center of Excellence” at DBL industrial park Mekelle. The assessment consisted on different participatory activities in which a special focus was set on leadership and the current challenges faced by the industry in this topic. Investing in soft skills is seen as increasingly important in factories where people from different disciplines and cultures have to work within a team. As in most of our initiatives, participants from all departments and hierarchy levels were invited. The participants were very motivated and eager to learn more on this topics.

SUSA has been working in Ethiopia for more than 7 years, in which we have established a broad network with different stakeholders including ministries, international organizations and factories.
