Nazma Akter has been campaigning for improved rights of workers since more than 30 years. She herself started working in a garment factory at the age of 11. Being confronted with workers’ rights violations and unsafe working conditions, she decided to stand up and fight for her rights and those of other workers. Today, she is one of the most respected and influential labour leaders in Bangladesh. In 2003, she founded the Awaj Foundation which has been an important partner of SUSA for the implementation of factory improvement projects in Bangladesh.
